At this time I can not reach protonmail.com or protonmail.ch

Neither site has a maintenance message, the sites simply time out in my web browser.

Current update on the ProtonMail DDoS Attack

It might not be a good sign that they are seeking help from those with enterprise experience until now, this is the sort of thing you want to plan for before it happens.

I tried Proton Mail 2-3 months ago. Dislike having to wait to register; but, that's life.
It appeared as though it was still in beta testing mode. No surprise they disappeared.

Just recently Proton was slow & i even received old deleted mail in the inbox that was deleted many months ago. Also whenever i clicked on the link to read the e mail it wouldn't open a new tab.

Scrypt recently had an issue & who really knows whats going on with safe-mail.

Is this a new trend with secure e mail providers,i picked them for stability & security.

Scrypt recently had an issue

The only issue SCRYPTmail has had was an expired SSL certificate that needed to be updated.

who really knows whats going on with safe-mail.

Safe-Mail was mostly done with a storage migration from old to new storage.

Unfortunately, it seems the old storage failed before they could finish migrating users to the new storage.

No one can claim 100% uptime. There are bound to be some blips and bleeps from everyone.

There are a variety of issues getting noticed at a quick pace recently.

Some of the recent issues, the relative small size of the providers and/or their infrastructures is making them vulnerable to problems due to being located in only one data center and/or having single points of failure.

So 1 theory was that it might be a legal issue,as in it was seized is incorrect?

It's possible. There are lots of rumors. I made a high level diagram here - Safe-mail.net is down for critical maintainance (maintenance)

From the news that's evolved since then, there were really 2 backend storage systems where I put the red X. The old one broke before they could finish migrating away from it. That story makes sense. Bad luck probably related to getting as much use out of the old storage as possible before needing to spend and make the purchase of the new storage + executing the migration.

Boxed themselves into a corner a bit. I suspect they may need to give up the 100% Switzerland hosted and will need help from vendors in other regions.

Why?

Both to get multiple geographic data centers online (eventually, long term plan), and in the meantime to help deal with the attack traffic that could be initiated by someone else when the current attacks are eventually shut down.

Maybe they could get away with user data only in Switzerland and some dummy locations where they can route the attacks to other regions?
