Outlook 2003 Inbox Count

I'm using Outlook 2003 for my emails. I've noticed that when I delete a message from the Inbox the count of emails in the Inbox does not go down. Why is this? I thought that if I empty the Delete Folder that the Inbox count would go down, but that was not the case. The only time that the Inbox count goes down is when I open an Unread email; in which case both the Unread and Inbox counts both go down. Shouldn't "read" emails in the Inbox reduce the count when I finally delete them?

Nope, Outlook like most email programs only display the unread count.
