email problem


New Email
I use Incredimail 2 for email. i just tried to get my mail, and I got this error message....."Socket Error: 10061 , Port: 25, Protocol: SMTP.No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." I have no idea what this means, or what i am supposed to do about it. Can someone help me?

Socket Error 10061 is a generic error that could mean any number of things including :

  • Your ISP's outgoing SMTP relay server is overloaded or down
  • Your ISP has intentionally blocked you from sending email
  • There is a problem with your network connection
  • There is a configuration problem with your firewall software
  • There is a configuration problem with your anti-virus software
The first two steps to take are :

  1. Wait an hour an try to send email again later.
  2. Call your ISP and ask if there is a problem with their smtp relay servers.
If you have made a recent change to your computer investigate the chance that caused the problem first. If not it's most likely a temporary problem with your ISP that should resolve itself shortly. If after waiting the hour there is a still a problem give your ISP a call to find out if the trouble is on their end.
