AT&T emails sending to an Exchange server.

I have a couple clients that receive emails form At&t and the emails take a huge amount of time to come through 6-10 hours is not uncommon. I can replicate the issue with my personal email account but I wanted to know is there a way to fix this or are the users screwed cause it is an at&t problem and they wont do anything about it?
