Hello,
When starting your Windows XP does it get stuck at the "applying computer settings" screen after you login?
There are a few reasons this could happen including DNS and general network problems.
I recently encountered this problem because my sygate personal firewall was causing a problem after upgrading a workstation from SP2 to SP3
To fix the problem I booted to safe mode and moved my sygate folder into a temp folder. Then I rebooted the computer into normal mode. Once in normal move I moved the Sygate folder back to it's original location and then ran the proper uninstall program for SPF. I had no problem logging in after the uninstall + reboot completed.
