    I received the following question:
    My response was:

Sending email to bad addresses (user unknown) at large email service providers such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail etc can damage the reputation of a mail server and lead to email being delivered to the spam folder of other users and/or getting blocked by IP address resulting in your emails bouncing back with an error message.

It's also bad in general to send email to any email address that isn't likely to interact with the email.

An positive interaction could be opening the email and clicking a link.

The recipient deleting the email, or even worse, marking it as spam, can cause future emails to that user and others at the same email service provider to be delivered to the spam folder.
