Today I received a " Delivery Status Notification" from Hot Mail stating that the e-mail I had sent to a certain address was not deliverable. I HAD NOT SENT THE E-MAIL!! In a few minutes, the Delivery Status Notification was removed from my screen.....I looked in the Trash Can.....it was not there. It was as if an unknown person was monitoring my e-mail and removed the notification. Certainly eerie......How this happened to anyone else?
It's a common technique among spammers, known as a "Joe Job".
Forging the sender address on email is as easy as doing it on snail mail, but the failed deliveries go to an innocent victim. This is known as backscatter.
There's nothing you can do about it except wait it out. It usually stops within a few days.
