How to migrate contacts from Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express to Gmail

To migrate your contacts from Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express the first thing you need to do is export your contacts:

Microsoft Outlook:
  • Select File, then Import/Export, and select Export.
  • Choose Comma Separated Values (Windows) and then select Contacts
  • Click Export
Outlook Express:
  • Select File, then Export, and select Address Book
  • Select Text File (Comma Separated Values).
  • Click Export
To import the contacts to Gmail

  • Export the address book from your other webmail provider or email client as a CSV file using the above directions if necessary.
  • Login to Gmail.
  • Click Contacts in the left navigation on any Gmail page.
  • Click Import in the top right portion of the Contacts screen.
  • Click the Browse button and select the contacts CSV file.
  • Click the Import button.
