Basically an email alias is a seperate email address that comes to your main address's inbox. This can be really useful for maintaining a professional email address ex: firstnamelastname@hotmail.com and personal address bonjovifan2007@hotmail.com from the same account.
All someone needs to know is the bit before the "+" to try and pick at an account.
Hotmail aliases cannot be used to log in, but the flaw is that if someone requests friendship to the alias with the messenger, the Windows Live ID is revealed and shows under OFFLINE. I think whatever name is friended is the one that should be shown.
