yahoo mail problem

I am unable to get to yahoo sites to check emails. I get error code 404 or ie cannot display or DNS error. I have been trying to get help to fix this for 3 days now and I'm ready to use this whole thing as a boat anchor. I've tried winsock reset. Malware checks. pinging the site shows no problem. Please help this non techie in plain english
