single space not double space

I saw a question regarding mail converting to double space from
single space, and I want to keep at single space. I tried to find
the link next to compose as instructed, but I could not figure that one out.
There is a "Links" below the compose, and I tried that but it didn't
work. Would you please tell me how to convert back to single space.
I have been having a problem with this for years. Thank you for your help.
