pop-up

Hi everyone! I'm new at this and hope that some one can offer some help. I pretty much have to rely on asking for help when I need it cause I don't know anyone who knows more than I do. This puter was set up 6-8 years ago along with email. Been sending & receiving ever since but for the past week a small pop-up comes up that says "Logon-Pop-server .cfl.rr.com." It says 'Please enter your name and password". In the body it shows our email address and 6 dots for the password, BUT, the curser is blinking ahead of the first dot. My guess is that this means the password is wrong and needs correction. 1) I don't have a clue why I get this popup and 2) I've no idea what the correct password is or how to find out. I sure would be greatfull if I could get some input. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm about a 5 or 6 at best. Believe me when I say I was born 30 years too soon. Thanks s much.T.Marz
