Mozilla Thunderbird: E-Mail reception fails

Good morning!

My e-mail program has been making problems for a couple of days, and now I need help. Every time I start Thunderbird or click on reception, "receiving message 1 of 14" or something similar shows up in the bottom of the window for a few seconds and disappears suddenly - however, without leaving a mail. By now, it's getting very annoying because I have important affairs to manage via e-mail. Is there anyone here with deeper knowledge who can help me?

Do you have filters/folders set up for your email? I use thunderbird and it does that to me when the email is going to one of my folders that are being filtered from my inbox.
