How to troubleshoot duplicate emails from pop3 accounts

Are you receiving duplicate emails when downloading email from a pop3 account?

Here are several troubleshooting steps that can help you fix the problem:

  • Are you getting duplicates of every email? Check your mail filters & rules
  • Turn off "keep a copy of mail on the server" in your mail program settings
  • Create an IMAP connection to your mail service. Do you see duplicates on the mail server? Can you switch to IMAP?
  • Try increasing the incoming mail server timeout setting in your mail program
  • Do you have multiple pop3 accounts configured in Microsoft Outlook? See this fix -
  • Is your virus scanner timing out your connections? Increase the timeouts. We recommend the free version of Avast virus scanner.
