Do you want to change the default position of the new Gmail compose window?
It's not possible yet to pick the default position, but it is possible to open it in the center of your screen instead of the lower right corner.
First, verify that you have Gmail keyboard shortcuts enabled.
After enabling Gmail shortcuts you can press Shift-C to start a new compose window in the middle of your screen.
It is also possible to hold down the Shift key and click the Compose button to open the compose window in the middle of your screen.
