How do I make Thunderbird my default mail program?
If you did not make Mozilla Thunderbird your default email program when you installed it here are the steps to manually make it your default email program:

If you did not make Mozilla Thunderbird your default email program when you installed it here are the steps to manually make it your default email program:
Windows and Apple:
- Go to Tools and Click Options
- Select the General section, click Check Now, check E-Mail, then click OK.
- If you still have problems with mailto: links in Windows then go to the Start button, select Control Panel, and open Internet Options. Under the Programs tab, select Mozilla Thunderbird from the drop-down list next to E-mail.
Gnome (UNIX/Linux):
- In the Gnome main menu go to System
- Select Preferences
- Select Preferred Applications
- Under the Mail Reader option select Mozilla Thunderbird
KDE 3.x:
- Open the Control Center
- Go to Network
- Select Email.
- Under Preferred Email Client type in the absolute path of your Thunderbird install directory, for example: /mozilla --mail
