How to find the persom or the business behind an email address?

I recieved an email address that gave me my account # and reference # but I have no idea who or where its from. Im hesitant responding to the email address without first knowing who it is Im responding too. Need help! Any thoughts?

If you don't know the company that sent the email I'd suspect that's a scam trying to get your information. Delete the email.
