How to cleanup my Gmail inbox

In addition to using filters and labels for organizing your Gmail, use the archive button to cleanup your inbox:

Archiving an email removes it from your inbox. Archived email is still available and searchable using the All Mail label.

You'd think folders and archiving would be common sense by now, but sometimes there are still members comments that they have almost 10,000 unread emails in their inbox (Hi @THERESA )

When you find tidbits like these it's usually because I needed something to link to from a question on a different page.

haha I have a buddy like that it drives me absolutely insane to look at his inbox. I start getting the shakes if I have more than ~20 legitimate (not automated or forum notices) in my inbox. My working email theory is if I read it deal with it. Reply, archive, or delete. I frequently break that rule with newsletters I want to read but keep marking as unread as I'm sorting through my other mail but other than that it works pretty good for me.
