How Do I Permanently Disable Chat?

Every time I open my Yahoo mail account an overlay box filled with requests to add to an "Online Contacts List" from individuals totally unknown to me. The list seems endless. Below are images of the windows, captured from screen dumps, if others do not know what I am talking about. Just to rub it in, Yahoo insists on a confirmation that I want to close the application, making it a two step process to get full access to the mail page. Some developers really love their creations as though they were dearly loved offspring.

How do we let Yahoo know that it would be gracious of them to allow users to disable this 'feature' via a setup menu?
