hotmail problems

Hi I have been having problems accessing my hotmail account.I select the email symbol then select hotmail ,my unread messages flash up for half a second and then disappear.The 'outlook.com' tab at the top of the screen then flashes for a while.I've got a feeling that the inbox is clogged up with too many messages,but don't really know.Any suggestions would be appreciated
