email full header

Hi,

Hope someone can explain to me what it means when i get an email that has the underneath in the full header:

Received: from mail.hotmail.com (col004-wss1s1.hotmail.com. [157.56.23.8]) by mx.google.com

The sender send me email through gmail so why is hotmail mentioned in the header?

Would appreciate to understand, feels like a scam (is someone i try to do business with).

thx Ricardo

Hi Ricardo,

It's tough to comment with a single header line out of context.

Can you copy and paste the complete email headers into a reply?

The general rule of thumb is that you can only trust the mail headers created by mail servers that you trust.

Sometimes scammers and spammers add fake headers to an email to try a mislead others when they are checking for the true source of an email.

Hi Ricardo,

If you do post the full headers of that email message, be sure to munge any live email addresses in there to avoid excessive spam.
