Disappeared emails

The entire contents of my Windows Live Mail junk folder have disappeared. As there were a couple of important items waiting to be dealt with, I need to retrieve them but not sure how. I think I double clicked junk mail folder instead of my usual single click. Could this be relevant?
Any suggestions?
