Deleting old emails

It is probably obvious, but how do I delete old emails in their hundreds?
I know I cAN DELETE INDIVIDUAL EMAILS BUT i'D LIKE TO ,SAY, DELETE ALL EMAILS PRIOR TO TO 2012.
