What happens to an email account when the owner dies?

It depends on where the email is hosted. If it's a free email account, many the larger free email services will suspend and eventually delete the email account because the owner is not logging in. If it's a paid email account, I'd think service would be suspended and eventually deleted after the billing stops working.
