Dealing with large inbox

I have been sick and hospitalized for two months and not using email. About 1000 messages have accumulated. How do I deal with this? My environment is AOL under WINMAIL.

Try sorting by sender and bulk deleting the "noise" before working through individual emails that might be more important.
