Changing email address and client

New Email
I currently use Thunderbird with a BT email address. My ISP is Sky. If I go onto Gmail and change my address to a Gmail one, presumably I have to use the Sky server. This means that I no longer will have access to the BTYahoo list of past emails. So I must backup my Thunderbird to make sure I don't lose them. Is this correct? (PS I'm on a learning curve here, with emails.)

Hello,

It's OK to have multiple email account profiles in Thunderbird.

It's possible to have both the BT and Gmail addresses configured at the same time.

I want to drop the BT address because BT want to charge me £5 a month to use it as I'm not a customer any more. I presume when I cancel them I will lose all the emails on its sever?

Most likely that's a yes, most ISP's terminate email accounts when data service is cancelled.

Before you cancel I recommend making a copy of your email to a new email account.

That's usually a simple process when you have two IMAP accounts configured when Thunderbird.
