An error occurred sending mail error R0003001

Usually I'm the one trying to answer questions but this time I have one.

When trying to send mail through my thunderbird email, I received the following error:

An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: Server is busy, please try back later. [R0003001]

I tried twice and it still wouldn't send.

Any ideas?

The Time Warner smtp relays / mail servers are having a problem :

I confirmed with a telnet to port 25 test.

Their mail servers respond with the error before even trying to accept an email.

It was showing the email was sent every time the error popped up but it wasn't. The email finally sent just now without the error.

That's a misreport from Thunderbird then. The email definitely wasn't sending when you were receiving that error. Their server was dropping the connections from you before attempting to accept and relay your outgoing email.
