We are trying to send email to a designated IP via a relay directive on PMTA, but we are receiving the following error message: #5.6.1 smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not supported by Remote Host with our AOL clients only

Without the relay, the email arrives fine. Any thoughts to why this is happening?

Hello,

Is the smtp relay server running postfix?

The following information seems to be the fix for your problem.

According to Wietse Venema you should ave the mail admin for the relay configure postfix with smtp_never_send_ehlo=yes and then test the changes.

Thanks for your quick response. We are not running Postfix on the server. However, we can try to change our settings from 8bitmime to 7 bit.

But what I'm not quite getting is why would the same email get into AOL's inbox if we manually directed the mail to the relay server. It seems it is the relay config that is making the email fail with AOL. There are no delivery problems with other ISPs.
