new message in hotmail shuts down ie

Everytime I try to open 'new' message in hotmail, it will open the page then autmatically shuts down internet exlporer, the message pops up saying something has caused internet explorer to stop working.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? My boyfriend is having the same problem with his account on hotmail. We can see all our messages and open emails, but neither of us can send a new email, or reply.

It would be awesome to get some help with this.

First try disabling addons in Internet Explorer. If that works which addon was the problem? If that does not work do scans for spyware and viruses on your computer.

I have tried all the suggestions and I am still having the promt "A Problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" And it is still shutting down every time I try to go to 'new' message.

Is your flash player up to date?

Try restoring IE8 to it's default settings :

• Open your Control Panel
• Double click open Internet Options
• Select the Advanced tab
• Click the Reset button

If IE8 still crashes did you try to download and reinstall Internet Explorer?

Alright I did all of the above. I also upgraded to IE9beta and still same thing. I have also tried logging in to hotmail with Safari. No luck, as soon as I select new msg or reply it receives the same promt and shuts the net down. I upgraded my flash player as well and no go. I did try logging into to hotmail yesterday at work and I had no problem sending a msg. So obviously its something to do with my computer, but I just can't figure out what....

Which anti-virus and spyware scanning programs do you have?

For my virus I like Avast.

For spyware I check regularly with Malwarebytes

Did you install any new programs around a week ago right before the problem started?

I use AVG, and my comp does regular scans. I don't remember updating or downloading anything in paticular before the problem started. Its been this way for a while now a few weeks and I still can't figure out the problem.

What I found was that it is the Silverlight add-on is the problem. I had the same exact symptoms as described... that as soon as I went to send a new e-mail, my hotmail would lock up the browser and it would shutdown. It also affect the other browsers on my computer like mozilla.

Use the Manage Add-ons tool to disable the Silverlight add-on.
a. Open Internet Explorer.
b. Click Tools, and then click Manage Add-ons.
c. On the Show drop-down menu, select All add-ons to display all add-ons that are installed on the computer.
d. For each item in this list, select the add-on (Silverlight), and then click Disable in the Information window.

e. Exit and then restart Internet Explorer.

This fixed the problem for me.
