Concept of "Webmail Client" like Altomail

We all know about desktop client like MS outlook, thunderbird, etc. Wherein the software is installed on computer and emails being downloaded.

But I was wondering if there are any webmail clients which would provide a better "interface" and / or save emails at their server through IMAP. If something like this is possible than we can avoid crappy and full of ads interface of yahoo / gmail / etc.

I found one such service.. altomail.com but was wondering whether there are any others?

I tried mail2web sometime back, but I think it doesn't work anymore. I got worried that they might be having my id and password so changed password afterwords.

Hi, I dont have such facility. What I am basically looking for is an alternate interface to access webmails like yahoo.

Several questions:

1. How many email accounts do you have? Are you only dealing with one account or do you have several accounts that you want to view in this web-client?

2. What is your present provider? Gmail? Outlook.com? Another?

Observation:
This doesnt' answer your main question about an online webmail client (sans email account), but....

If ads are your main concern there are some ways to remove ads. If you're using Firefox/Palemoon there is a webmail ad blocker add-on that removes the ads from Gmail, Outlook.com, etc. In fact I keep forgetting there are ads in these providers, since I've had that add-on for some time and never see them! Btw, it's also available for Chrome. You could try this and see if it makes your present webmail provider/experience more bearable.

If it does work for you and if you have more than one account (at other providers), you could set up your main account to POP your other accounts (or have the other accounts auto-forward to your main one) so that you can do all your reading/organizing at that one location, rather than relying on an general IMAP web-client. And you can set that main account up so it can (probably) send mail using any of the email addresses of your other accounts.

You could basically 'live' out of this main account and ignore the others, at least for a little while. You would have to login to those other accounts every once in a while, though, so they won't be suspended. And you wouldn't have the convenience of an IMAP connection to move messages around those other accounts as easily as with a true IMAP client. But you might be able to get by.

As far as an actual answer to your question, I'm afraid the one service I mentioned is the only one I ever heard of, barring those premium email providers (e.g. PolarsMail, EuMX) that use something like Group Office software, which can be set up with an IMAP connection to other, external accounts. (E.g. I have my EuMX Group Office webmail set up so it can work with Fastmail and Runbox via IMAP.) Accounts at PolarisMail and EuMX aren't free, but very reasonable (less than the price of one home-delivered pizza covers a whole year of service, including good customer service). :)

Thanks foggy for your detailed explanation.

I use yahoo as my main email id and gmail/outlook.com as extra ids to register on sites, etc.

I use ad block plus in chrome to hide ads but still the ad pane area is still occupied. And I have comparatively smaller laptop screen size so there is not much of area left to easily view/write emails.

I first came across the thought of using MS Outlook client but was wondering what if there is any such online service/email wherein I can IMAP yahoo email (just like IMAPing in desktop email client) but instead of my desktop the emails will be downloaded on this new email service and start using it as imap from there on.

I'll take a look at Polaris and Eumx that you suggested and see how comfy i am using them.

Nirav,

AdBlockPlus is a great add-on, BUT it won't get rid of right-side webmail ads, at least it never has on my computer. I would suggest installing the webmail ad blocker I mentioned above. It shouldn't conflict at all with ABP. (It never has for me.) You'll see an immediate difference in your screen real estate. WAB removes the ads and expands the space so you have more of your actual webmail client on your screen -- immediately noticeable, esp. in Outlook.com. I don't have a Yahoo account, but it's supposed to work just as well there.

Try it and let me/us know if it helps.

Webmail Ad Blocker (Chrome store)

Btw, it does have settings that you can modify, so you can check those out after installation. But its default settings work like a charm for me. :D

Thanks again foggy. I installed Webmail ad blocker and it works really good. I'll suggest it to few of my other friends also.
