Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone was using Aol's new Project Phoenix mail interface, and if so, what are your thoughts. I have been trying it out and it seems pretty good. I like having other domain names to choose from. Wow.com is really cool..........................

Yeah, an invite is required. Sorry about that. Invitation is on the way. Let me know if you receive it. Thanks

I picked one under games.com. This is a little interesting since years ago AOL offered email under several outside domain names and eventually dropped all support for them and left people hanging.

I'm missing something here. What's the point? Is this a Beta of an upcoming AOL Webmail interface? I'd had the option to switch back to Classic mode, which feels like a Yahoo style Classic / New / Beta system.

Yup, it's a new webmail built from scratch by AOL. Features list :

Probably more interesting are the other features which include:

  • Aggregation of Aol, Yahoo, Gmail, Comcast, and other email accounts into one inbox a la iOS.
  • A "Quick Bar" or shortcut bar above the inbox with short email, IM, text, Facebook and Twitter status update capabilities.
  • Three inbox views -- "expanded," which allows viewing of the first few lines of each email, "compact" (think traditional), and and the Entourage-like "reading pane."
  • Web browser-like tabs for switching between user inbox and messages.
  • A Mapquest sidebar adjacent to the email body that automatically detects addresses listed in open emails and offers directions
  • A photo sidebar that aggregates photo attachments.
  • New optional email domain names.

Nice review. I'm trying to figure out a way to remove the right hand side bar and just have a full view reading pane. I guess you liked the games.com name. Did you care for any other names? I liked: games, wow, ygm and sort of thought love.com was interesting. I'm starting to like the layout the more I use it.

I'm tinkering around with the options now.

AOL somehow managed to get this one past me while I was taking some downtime last November. :)

The bullets above were a quick copy/paste.

The games domain seemed the most appropriate for me to choose from.

I don't have much interest in using several email accounts from the same account, they are separate for a reason.

I don't see a way to remove the right hand side pane yet, if it's possible at all, but I'm just getting started.

Since you have been using it longer if you'd like to take a shot at an AOL Project Phoenix review here (Email Reviews - Email Questions) go for it!

:thanks: -Ray

Does it have the option of a secure connection (https) ?

foggy,

From what I see, you only have a secure connection while logging in.

Once logged on it appears you lose it.

I checked an aol account and it seemed to work like that also.

Apparently no full session https.
