Some questions on the service

New Email
I am a new user of Scryptmail. I like it very much, so far.
However I do have some questions.

1. Firefox Password Manager is not able to fill in credentials to log in. Is this normal/intentional or it's just me?
No problem to fill in with Lastpass, though.
2. I saw the incoming new features from the blog, I was just wondering the ETA of the iOS app.
3. How many email aliases can be created with the basic account? What is the purpose of the disposable email address when aliases are also available?
4. It seems -for basic accounts- the number of emails is limited to 1000. Why in the Chart at this link Compare - Encrypted Email Service Providers is 2000?
5. Any way to set up desktop notification on Chrome or Firefox?

Thanks to those who can answer.

Hi gladius,
thank you for contacting us.
1. It was intentional
2. Before diving into apps, we need to release stable version, otherwise it can affect quality and speed of development.
3. For Basic Account its 3 alias and 5 disposable. Disposable was our first feature, but it may worth to reconsider the value of it.
4. I just assume it was set as 2000, because anyone can request Advanced Account contacting us at: support@scryptmail.com
5. This not available yet

The reason for a disposable e mail addy is when one registers on web sites & to avoid spam they just deleted the disposable e mail addy,at least this is the way i understand it.

Hmm. Actually, in my case I continue to have trouble with LP on both FF and Palemoon. Neither one allows auto-filling or auto-logging. I need to click on the LP icon and navigate to "matching sites" and then "copy password." Then I paste that in the Scryptmail password field and fill in my username manually to login.

Sure, but basically you can do the same with an alias.

@SCRYPTmail what are the features of Advanced Account? I searched in the blog but could not find anything. Thanks.

That's correct, but an alias is part of your e mail account which sends/receive mail in the same inbox/sent as your primary account.

I'm somewhat confused regarding the disposable also which is supposed to be registered/used anonymously without an e mail provider having any info on you.

I view aliases as permanent alternatives to your primary address. They can be used so others don't know your login name. They can be used to create firstName.lastName and fName@ types of aliases if your real account is lastName.

I view disposable email addresses as temporary addresses for a specific purpose. Maybe you want to register on a site and need to confirm an email but don't want them to know your real email address or risk getting a valid alias for your account getting sold to spam lists.

What is the difference between Advanced Account and Basic one?

The SCRYPTmail system is currently in the process of a rewrite.

When it's done it will look like this ( Preview of the new SCRYPTmail ) and the advanced features will mostly be paid limit increases of the free features.

Customers will have the ability to choose exactly which features they want to increase, and how much to increase them, without needing to purchase unnecessary extras they don't want.

The new rewrite supports that feature. It's not currently available as a feature today.

The more I use the service, the more I like it. Another feature which is great for security is that when you log in from another device (for example, mobile phone browser), it logs you out from the other session.
I can't wait to get a mobile app!

I hope the rewrite will work better with receiving my messages. As it stands now, no message sent to my main account (FastMail) and auto-forwarded to Scryptmail arrives (though it does successfully arrive at other auto-forwarded locations). Also, any email sent from FM and BCC'd to Scryptmail arrives.

The only way I can get this to work is to auto-forward/BCC to Outlook.com and have that service auto-forward to Scryptmail. As I say, that works, but I'd really prefer a more direct route.

Too late to edit: although my intended statement is probably obvious, the last sentence of the first paragraph should read: "Also, no email sent from FM and BCC'd to Scryptmail arrives."

Hi foggy,
yes there are some issues with Bcc emails, unfortunately there is no clear standard of how to handle Bcc in email envelope.

Therefore some email provider send 'BCC' emails by placing recipient in 'To' filed, when others use "undisclosed recipients" in 'To' filed, and place actual recipient into 'Received' part of email header. Our current system is designed to parse emails provided only with standard email envelope headers, like 'To', 'CC'.

However, in new version, I added script that will look into non standard 'Received' header to extract possible recipient. I also want to thank for pointing it out and please do not afraid to send us reports to support@scryptmail.com It will help us to find and track possible bugs much faster.
