I was previously using Hostgator for my email hosting and they started having issues forwarding emails to my Gmail account so I decided it was time for a change.

I believe I have everything set up (at least as well as I know).

Not sure on the services - there are so many that I will need to check out each one to see which ones benefit me the most with the least amount of effort.

Sure.

Well, Zoho have incredibly slow customer service (they reply after a week or so, with a link to sort out the problem), from what I have seen they very rarely sort out the situation, and if they do it is usually a temporary solution.

I personally think it's quite hard to navigate around the Control Panel, this might be because I am so used to Gmail and Hotmail.

I also in no way think you are safe on Zoho, there is a guy called Zack who I believe is a Regional Coordinator or something for Zoho. I was looking for some more information on Zoho, so put his name into Google Search and the results were shocking- this guy is basically a hacker for Western Union and Paypal. When I saw his Facebook profile, he has a vast number of PayPal account details (names, addresses, card details). This was most certainly a turn off for Zoho, whether it be a coincidence or not- I will not be returning.
