Hello,

Before following the directions it is required that you switch to Basic Yahoo:

Are you tired of being prompted by the "Yahoo recommends you upgrade your browser" notice when logging into Yahoo Mail with the Safari web browser?

Safari Upgrade Notice.JPG

Here are the steps to trick Yahoo into no longer showing this screen:

First, click the Settings Gear and select Preferences:

Safari Preferences.JPG

Next, click the Advanced Button, then check the box to enable the development menu:

Safari Show Development Menu Bar.JPG

After checking the development box close the above window.

Next, click the Development Menu, select Develop, then User Agent, then Other:

Safari Change User Agent to Other.JPG

Last, copy and paste the following text into the User Agent Box:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0

Safari Latest User Agent.JPG

Click OK

After clicking OK the Yahoo page should reload and you will not be prompted with the upgrade notice during future logins.

Hello -

I'm having the issue as stated - I get the page where Yahoo asks me to upgrade, but I can't, as I'm still using OS 10.4 and will be for a while yet.
Looking at your instructions, (I'm guessing it's PC based), and don't recognize the visuals on the screen captures. Is the 1st screen capture from Safari preferences? I'm wondering where to start on my Mac.

Since last Thursday eve (12/5) I've been totally locked out of Yahoo mail. I get to the page where it asks me to upgrade Firefox or Safari, and I used to click the 'Continue without upgrading' option, but now when I click that, nothing happens. Refreshing does noting. The page appears frozen. No l inks on it are active. What gives and how can I get my e-mail? This is beyond aggravating.

TIA,
Deb

I wonder if anyone else is having this problem? Yahoo Mail was inaccessible for 3 or 4 days last week (see above post) but on SUnday (12/8) it started working again. Ta dah! Oops - not so fast....Monday night it stopped working again and is status quo today as well and I'm having to use this address to access any mail:

Any idea why this could be happening?

Was that with the Windows (this guide) or the Mac (the guide you quoted) user agent string?

Also, I'm not sure how safe it is to rely on any testing right now since there is currently a major Yahoo service outage affecting lots of users.

Once they're back to normal running, and all we need to fix is getting you a working browser on an old Mac, it should be safe to test again.
