Hello,

To enable full session SSL for a Yahoo Mail account:

  • Go to the top of the page, click Options, and select Mail Options
Yahoo Mail Options.JPG
  • At the bottom of your General preferences check the box for SSL
Yahoo Mail Turn on SSL.JPG
  • Save. Yahoo will reload your inbox to activate full session SSL

Whaaaaa ??? You mean to tell me that Yahoo finally got full-time SSL for their webmail ?? And it works ??? Unbelievable. :p No announcement at their blog that I can see. Why the hush-hush release of this long-awaited feature ?

In any case, they say the last one to the party is the first one to leave, so let's see how it actually works to keep people (like Firesheep users) from getting in to Yahoo accounts.

What are your thoughts on this, Ray ? :)

I happened to notice it while looking for a different option.

You'd think they would be promoting it more with an inbox notification.

It's nice that it's an option, and I enabled it, but I only use my Yahoo to receive confirmation link emails when I don't want to give out my main email address.

Thanks, Ray.

You should have the honor of being the one to break the news at EMD. I don't think anyone there knows about it yet. :)

Why should someone do this? Why is this important to me? The reason someone would want to do this is not explained above. There are many people that don't know a lot about email and technical lingo and will not understand this. (what "full session SSL means and why it matters)

I just tried to do it and the option isn't there. I use yahoo classic, I suppose that might be the problem. I do not like the new yahoo mail version at all.

Here is a past discussion on Full Session SSL that has more information.

The short answer: Full Session SSL means that all traffic between you and Yahoo Mail, such as reading emails, and not just the login page, are better protected now.

I didn't like the look and I am very resistant to changing something once I am used to it. When fb changed to the new look I HATED it. I still prefer the old one but I had no choice.

I was upgraded to the "new and improved" faster to load Yahoo Mail today.

The Mail Options menu is in the top right of the page now. I still have the option to enable SSL.

New Email
I have TURNED-ON SSL in Yahoo Mail yesterday.

My YM reloaded into a non-graphic (text only) design, right after.

Problem (theres´s more actually):
E.g.
A) I cant enter my INBOX (even though there´s a link)
B) The email options through which I enabled SSL
are nowhere to be found.
(I want to disable/turn-off the SSL)

My PC:
Windows XP
Google Chrome

Now,
when I go to YAHOO.COM
then click MAIL,
a GREEN HTTPS LOG-IN PAGE opens.
I get to log-in with my log-in details and
my YM opens in that CROSSED RED HTTPS text-only design.

Please, help.
Oshi

How to turn on Full Session SSL to make all pages HTTPS in the current Yahoo Mail:

Click the Gear at the top right of your inbox, then click Settings:

Yahoo Mail Settings.JPG

In the Security settings, check the box for Always use HTTPS, then click Save:

Yahoo Full Session SSL - Always use HTTPS.JPG

It's already known that turning on "Always use HTTPS" is the #1 fix for Yahoo attachment download problems, but now the following message is being displayed on Yahoo help pages:

Yahoo SSL REquired.JPG

If this is the case, why not force standard web browsers and known compatible devices to "Always use SSL" and leave the option available for users to disable it as needed?

That seems better than hoping millions of users will eventually figure out they need to enable "Always use HTTPS", which appears to be required now.

As of January 2014 yahoo turned on SSL for all accounts so you no longer have to manually worry about turning on the full session SSL.
