What is the role of the underscore in an email address? I've heard that "."s disappear, but is it the same with underscores?

My main concern is: Are these two example email addresses the same, or different?
    Hawaii_Work@example.com and hawaiiwork@example.com

    Thank you for your help.

Thanks for responding, and for the help! How do underscores and spaces interact in email addresses, as well as capitalization?

I'm trying to figure out if the email address I sent an application to is the same as the one for their original applications, or a different one, so I know if I should re-send it or not.

The first email address is like this:
    oceanjobs@example.com

And the second is like this:
    Ocean_Jobs@example.com

Those seem like two separate email addresses, right?
    :thanks:

    Hello,

Yes, they seem like two separate email addresses.
