Special Characters Misinterpreted

My email in the last few weeks, after several Windows 7 updates, is not interpreting special charactes like apostrophes and at signs.
So I get Café Ponte — Clearwater instead of Café Ponte @ Clearwater.
Here is an example:
Six-Course Meal Café Ponte — Clearwater 3 miles from Home
Anyone know how to fix this.
