The new Windows Live Hotmail has been rolling out to over 300 million hotmail users for several weeks. Many of these users have been upgraded and have access to the new Windows Live Hotmail features, and unfortunately also access to the usual upgrade issues. If you are experiencing a problem logging in our working with your inbox in the new hotmail please see our guide about how to troubleshoot hotmail problems.

Now that you are logged into Hotmail and can see your inbox here are some of the new features that you may have access to:

  • Bulk filtering actions with Sweep
  • Integrated Microsoft Office web apps support
  • Slide shows of your incoming and outgoing attachments
  • Playing videos from within your inbox
  • The ability to create and send picture albums
  • Improved spam filtering to help keep spam out of your inbox
A note about the new features from Microsoft :

While most people will see all the new features at once, as soon as their cluster is upgraded, some features, like the integrated Office Web Apps and the ability to send files via SkyDrive, will initially be available only in certain countries. For example, Office integration will first roll out to Hotmail customers in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland first, and then to customers in other countries later this year.

The sweep feature allows you to manage your email with a few simple clicks. It's slightly faster than my Gmail for some operations where I need to go through the process of creating and filtering email into labels.

Additional features include contact list improvements, multiple email accounts, and more storage space for your email.
