Long story short (I'll post the longer version later) a client had been experiencing intermittent issues receiving email attachments that were several megs or greater in size from our smtp relays. They had been experiencing the problem for several months and were the only client reporting a problem with being able to receive email attachments from our smtp relays. Eventually one of our network experts figured out that some of our Sun v210 servers running Solaris 10 were improperly shrinking tcp windows. The problem only affected Sun v210 servers configured with auto negotiating gig ethernet connections. If their connections were hard set at 100/full they did not have this problem. The fix was found within the patches of the current Solaris 10 patch cluster from Sun.
