I had an old hotmail account that got infected. I tried every which way to clean it up but to no avail. So I finally closed it completely and have not used it in months. However, some of my contacts are still receiving emails from that address. What can I do to stop this?

It's possible that there is nothing you can do since spammers can send email From: your email address without having access to the actual email account. Check the full email headers from one of the emails received by your contacts and go from there. If it's from your account you can contact Microsoft, if not just let you contacts know to blacklist your old email address.
