Over the past couple of weeks Gmail has released some pretty cool drag and drop features for attachments and images. With a supported browser (Firefox & Chrome). If you want to attach a file just drag and drop it from your desktop into attachment area of the email.
You can also drag and drop pictures inline meaning you can write your message then drag your picture right where you want it in your message!
