Hello,

Did your SpamFighter stop working after upgrading your Thunderbird mail program?

While viewing the SpamFighter one can see that this is a common problem.

First, to help prevent this problem in the future:
  • Turn of automatic updates for Thunderbird
  • Confirm there is a working update to SpamFighter before upgrading Thunderbird
You can try to run the "Repair" feature within SpamFighter, but this does not always fix the problem.

Please make sure to backup your Thunderbird mail folders before trying a downgrade in the next step. It's possible that downgrading could cause even more problems for your email.

If repairing SpamFighter does not work, try downgrading your Thunderbird to a previous version. To get an old version of Thunderbird go to this link and select the previous working version of Thunderbird. As of this post Thunderbird 15 is a safe choice. After clicking the link for Thunderbird 15 you'll need to click the green button that says "download this version". After downgrading reinstall the latest version of SpamFighter.

If all else has failed, you can get live phone support for SpamFighter by upgrading to SpamFighter Pro.

That worked for me. I went back to the older version and it's working. I won't upgrade again until know that spamfighter will work with the new version of thunderbird!

How does one go back to the older version? Can you just download it and click install??

Hi Sailor,

Yes, installing Thunderbird 15 on top of Thunderbird 17 worked for us.

Even if this downgrade seems safe, it's a good idea to make a backup first.

:welcome: to Email Questions!

Thanks for the input, and I will give it a try. I have the Mozilla backup program and will be sure to back up before I do this.

Well I went back to version 15, but still no toolbar. Must I go back to an earlier version of spamfighter to get the toolbar? If so, where is it??

Thanks in advance

Thunderbird 15 worked for us. Others have reported that Thunderbird works too.

Did you try reinstalling SpamFighter after downgrading Thunderbird?

Did you restart your computer after reinstalling Thunderbird?

I finally uninstalled spamfighter and reinstalled it, and this worked! I am now running tb 15, with the new spamfighter. I remembered to turn the automatic update off in tb. I did not have to restart the computer. Thanks for the help.

I have suspended my pro spamfighter till they get it compatible with the new tb.This is getting old!

FYI- In the future, you may not need to uninstall spamfighter and reinstall it. You can follow the steps below and it should fix it:

~Start
~all programs
~click on fighters folder
~click on spamfighter folder
~click on repair
close and restart thunderbird

These steps should reinstall the spamfighter toolbar without uninstalling and reinstalling the entire program. It worked for me.
