Link or write out URLs?

I had been under the impression the best practice was to write out the URL in emails rather that using a link, because for some people the link won’t work, but everybody can paste the URL into their browser. Does this still hold true or is it now the case that there are so few people for whom the link won’t work that it makes more sense to not clutter up the email with URl’s---even tinyurls?

When emailing a link I put the entire URL in the email and leave it to the recipients mail client to turn it into a clickable link.
