Email Issue

New Email
Dear Ms. Janyszeski,

I have an email address originates from Go Daddy. The email program is up and running, able to send and receive emails. I have used the email address with Windows Essentials email and MAC Mail and get the same issues described below. When running the account through a spam checker, the following message is received:

[SPF] benevolenceinn.com does not allow your server 173.201.192.105 to use shane@benevolenceinn.com
Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is an email validation system designed to prevent email spam by detecting email spoofing, a common vulnerability, by verifying sender IP addresses.
What we retained as your current SPF record is:

"v=spf1 a mx include:secureserver.net ~all"
More information about this error:
benevolenceinn.com: Junk encountered in mechanism 'ptr:68.178.252.102'

In addition, [Sender ID] benevolenceinn.com does not allow your server 173.201.192.231 to use shane@benevolenceinn.com, is also stated. This is the same message but for "Sender ID" as well.

I spoke to Go Daddy and they stated that it could be an issue with MAC mail. When I spoke to Apple, they suggested that the issue lies with my home IP address and not Go Daddy or Apple. The IP address of Go Daddy is listed above but the tec online said that my home ip would be the real issue. I think this may be a Time Warner issue and not Go Daddy.

Any tips on how to solve this?

:thanks:

Shane

Do you want to be able to send mail From: @benevolenceinn.com from the IP 173.201.192.105?

;; ANSWER SECTION:
benevolenceinn.com. 3600 IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx include:secureserver.net ~all"

Check the TXT record in your zone file. That's your SPF record, and what needs to be updated.

Right now it's allowing from 97.74.144.64 and the Godaddy mail servers.

Before the include add "ip4:173.201.192.105/32" (without the quotes) as part of the record.

The result will be:

"v=spf1 a mx ip4:173.201.192.105/32 include:secureserver.net ~all"

I think that is what I want to do. Should I also include my home IP, which is 72.225.38.75? Can you include more than one?

You can include more than one.

You only need to include your home IP if it's a mail server delivering to other mail servers on the internet.

If you relay through something like your ISP's smtp server when sending from home you don't need to include the home IP in your SPF record.

Ok. I don't think it is a mail server. It is just a normal server I believe. The spam site currently says that everything is good. The SPF now is listed as

What we retained as your current SPF record is:

"v=spf1 a mx ip4:173.201.192.105/32 include:secureserver.net ~all"

In the past, sometimes the site will say everything is good and when retesting it, it will say there is an issue. I will repost if there is.

If it helps to see a visual I circled in red the types of servers and services that need to be in your SPF record:

senders that need SPF records.JPG

In your case it's Godaddy on the right side of the circle not the mention of Gmail/Hotmail etc.

So the Spam Tester website replied to my email with the following response:

Hello,

I guess you're on a shared server so the IP of the sending server may change from one e-mail to another and that's why you get different results...

Your current issue with the SPF is that secureserver.net does too many redirections and our server only allows 10 redirections (which is the case for most SPF checking systems).
But that's a GoDaddy issue... basically secureserver.net includes spf.secureserver.net which then includes include:spf100.secureserver.net include:spf200.secureserver.net which then includes include:spf101.secureserver.net include:spf102.secureserver.net include:spf103.secureserver.net include:spf104.secureserver.net include:spf105.secureserver.net include:spf106.secureserver.net include:spf107.secureserver.net ... etc

Best Regards,
Adrien

Since I made the changes recommended, there haven't been errors.

Thanks!
