Gmail Chat Privacy and Security Settings

I wanted a quick and easy way to temporarily chat with some people and send test text messages without creating a new IM account.

I enabled my Gmail chat and used these settings :



Only allowing selected contacts to see my chat and not logging the chats seems like the best configuration.

I disable mine all the way. Just like Facebook chat. I cannot tell you how many times people 'sneak up' on me. That is I have Gmail open along with 30 other tabs and never see the message until it's to late and someone thinks I'm ignoring them.

I decided I like the history and will use the off the record mode as needed.

I wasn't aware of that when I started. It's more helpful to drop only sensitive conversations.
